The Blueprint to Reality Success is Drama, Drama, Drama.

For whatever reason....we can all find some type of guilty pleasure in watching ALL THE DRAMA that unfolds in the world of Black Reality TV.  As we scroll through our Facebook Timelines or on Twitter, it's just amazing how many of our friends watch, enjoy and talk about reality tv.  But yet, we feel some type of comfort because at least we're not the only one sitting home, watching RHOA or LHHA- cracking up and shaking our head while saying, "she is so stupid," "no he didn't just disrespect her like that," or "HOT MESS."

And it is because of our relentless urge to watch these shows that they become such a huge success.  Hate it or love it, these women are making money because we want to see their faces on the small screen and are faithfully devoted to watching them every week.  But why?  That's the question.  Why are we so attracted to drama?

When you think about it...that's all these "successful" reality shows are-DRAMA, DRAMA, DRAMA.  Grown women who are still choosing to deal with child like issues.  Cat fights, he said-she said, and let's not talk about these tacky men that are being fought over and sought after.  And for whatever reason, it's the women who carry on in this fashion that go on to further this new found success by being renewed for a new season, a spin-off show, or other endeavors.  While the "other" women, those who choose NOT to portray a certain character or image on these shows, are asked NOT to come back for the next season or they leave the show on their own accord prior to the completion of shooting.

Look at Deshawn Snow and her departure from her reality career.  Okay....I'll wait and give you a minute to remember who she is.
Got it yet?  Okay let me refresh your memory.  Deshawn Snow, who is now the Ex-Wife of former NBA player, Eric Snow was a part of the first season of the RHOA.  Her time with the show was very short-lived and she did not return for the second or any other season to follow.  Sources say, she was not asked back because the producers of the show believed that she was "too human for a circus show," basically insinuating that there just wasn't  enough drama about her life to keep her there.  Deshawn is a mother of 3 boys, and is actively involved with various charities, one being Jarren's Island, her own charity that assist kids with ADHD and autism; and was developed after her son Jarren was diagnosed.

For whatever reason, this is not what we want from reality tv.   We would rather have this.

Do you remember the time we spent with FLAVA FLAV!!! on his reality dating show Flavor of Love?  For 3 seasons, beginning in 2006, we witnessed women of all different backgrounds move in the house and try to gain the love and affection of Flavor Flav (Hmmmm...Side-Eye since 2006.)  It was there we met this person, Tiffany Pollard known on the show as "New York."  Tiffany, with her larger than life mouth and "willing to smack a b*#ch" attitude took her all the way to top.  She was kicked off the show, brought back for another season and then given her own spin offs.  I Love New York was her first show where she shined on her own, and then she was given another show where she pursued acting as a career and allowed the cameras to capture  that adventure on, New York Goes to Hollywood and a third show, New York Goes to Work.  Finally we grew tired of seeing her on the small screen and smiled when she did her last and best role ever in my opinion, with New York Go Home and Have a Seat.  (Of course that only made it into production in my head.)

I guess the days  of shows like, The Cosby Show and Different World are long gone and now we want "Steebie, Jocelyn, and MiMi."  We want NeNe Leakes to keep fighting with Kim Zolciak.  We want to see drama unfold between friends, or once friends Evelyn Lozada and Jennifer Williams.  What's next?  What will peak our interest next?  Who knows but, the same way I started this conversation is the way I will end it.  For right now, LHHA is my guilty pleasure and I'll see you in front of the TV on April 22nd for Season 2.  Hey Steebie.  :-)
