Drugs and the usage of drugs is a growing problem that many of us know about all too well because we have encountered it in some form or facet. Maybe you know someone who's sold it, smoked it or maybe you- yourself are the primary user. But nevertheless drug addiction is REAL! This past Saturday night on the OWN network we got the chance to see just how real drug addiction is when rapper, DMX sat down with Iyanla Vanzant on her show, "Fix My Life," to TRY and rekindle his broken relationship with his adult son, Xavier. If you did not get the chance to see this very heartfelt episode you can take a look by clicking on the link below.

If you don't have the time to click on the link, allow me to sum up what took place on this episode. Xavier, the son of DMX, had not seen or spoken to his father in over a year. Why? Well, in a nutshell...it was due to the toxic behavior of DMX when he is high off of whatever drug he is using at the time. Xavier reached out to Iyanla to try to mend this broken relationship with his father and the only way that this could happen was if DMX agreed to take that step- but to take that step "clean" meaning NO DRUGS. Before I get to DMXs response let me just say how during this sit down conversation DMX TRIED to have with his son. He couldn't even look him in his eyes. He sat turned to the side for the majority of the conversation like this.
Moving on...DMX did have a heart to heart conversation by himself with Iyanla where he opened up and touched on everything from relationships, his childhood and issues with his mother, the numerous amounts of women he's been with, his failed marriage to Xavier's mother and of course...drugs. He said a lot but what stuck out for me was this comment he said about his drug habit.
"I will always have a drug problem. Just because you stop getting high,
doesn’t mean that you still don’t have the problem. It’s a constant
fight everyday. Every trigger that was a trigger is still a trigger..."
The rapper stated that he no longer uses cocaine or crack and also talked about the side effects that really pushed him toward ceasing his usage of the drug.
"There was a time when I thought I had to stop or I was going to lose my
mind and do something that I regret because of the paranoia. You hear
things louder and you think people are scheming. Paranoia is what scared
me more than dying. It’s a lonely feeling and I thought about blowing
my head off a few times. The only thing that stopped me was that I had
children and you cant say anything to them after you are gone."
Well...what about saying something to your children now? Which brings me back to what Xavier requested of his father. He wants a relationship but he wants it "CLEAN." And in watching the show...you would think that this was the route that they were headed toward. There were moments when DMX and Xavier embraced one another with hugs. There were tears that fell from the eyes of both men, there were questions that were asked and answered and then....there was Iyanla...who every now then interjected with her own comments and opinions which prompted a very frustrated DMX to lash out by telling her to "shut the F-- up."
The scene got so intense that DMX had to leave the room and a "friend of the family" came in to address and apologize to Iyanla and Xavier on DMXs behalf. The friend of the family told Iyanla that DMX wanted to continue his conversation with his son without her being present BUT Xavier did not want to be alone in a room with his father. In an effort to allow Xavier to carry out his sole purpose for being on the show, which was to rekindle his relationship with his father, she agreed to remain quiet and keep her mouth closed if DMX came back into the room to talk to his son. DMX did come back and had the opportunity to continue to speak with his son again and also hear him play the guitar and sing. But...when his son requested that he stop the usage of the drugs in order to maintain a relationship with him his response was..."that's not gonna fly...I guess I'll see you at my funeral. Give me hug." WHAT?????? Well...Iyanla felt the same way you do right now and she opened up her mouth which prompted DMX to call her a B#@&! Of course she blew up and told him that he "does not get [the right] to talk to her that way."
The afters show drama is just as bad as the episode itself. Now DMX is accusing the OWN network of not having permission to use the footage that was shown. This is what a representative of DMX, Domenick Nati of Nati Celebrity Services had to say,
"DMX agreed to be a guest on ‘Iyanla: Fix My Life’ with the understanding
that she would be helping his relationships with his 10 children,” the
statement says. “When he arrived for the taping, most of the content was
focused on his struggles with drugs and poor parenting. Iyanla did not
‘fix’ DMX’s life just made his image worse, and does not have DMX’s
personal written consent to use the footage.”
Of course Iyanla is defending the airing of the episode saying that she did receive consent. Maybe DMX is a little nervous now that the airing of this show damaged his image and he is in the process of putting together a new album and touring.
I don't know "WHAT TYPES OF GAMES ARE BEING PLAYED (&) HOW IT'S GOING DOWN" but I pray for he and his family. And in the meantime....Iyanla has me hooked on this show. This Saturday she'll be talking to Sheree Whitfield and Ex Husband Bob Whitfield. Can't wait. And you know I'll keep you posted if you miss it. #SUPPORT DMX
